Acer Iconia Dual-Screen Tablet

Posted on March 3, 2012

The Acer Iconia is a bearing convertible tablet, with a bottom screen that can act as a virtual keyboard making it function as both a tablet and a laptop.

There is no doubt this is a cool device, and Acer should be applauded for such an ambitious design.Besides that, Acer Iconia has Bluetooth 0, WiFi b/g/n, both USB 0 and USB 0 ports, and HDMI and VGI output ports. While some initial third-party testers have noted sluggish performance, the final product has not been refined and will not be for sale until February 20 In terms of connectivity, the Acer Iconia comes with a HDMI port, 2 USB 0 ports, a USB 0 port, WiFi, and a couple of 3MP cameras. However, while the twin screens are obviously the biggest draw card with this device, it also comes with dual-core AMD processors and a healthy amount of connectivity. The only thing that remains to be seen is just how it will fit in an already crowded tablet and notebook marketplace, and whether people are prepared to put up with a large and heavy machine for the benefit of dual screen functionality. It seems both the memory and hard drive will be configurable, with up to a 750GB HDD and 4GB of RAM.The Acer Iconia will use the Windows 7 OS, and already looks like it has some great software of its own. With dual 14 inch touchscreens and built-in custom gesture support, the Iconia definitely stands out in the crowd.Acer have shown off their unique Iconia notebook-tablet at a global press conference today, and at first glance it looks like an amazing bit of kit.1280×1024 webcam is included as well, and each display can produce 1266 X 768 resolution.Neither of these two issues should come as a surprise however, especially when you realise just how much juice those two big screens must be using. As for the hardware specification, this dual screen tablet comes with Intel Core i5 processor and a hard drive with 320 to 750GB capacity. This tablet, or notebook, comes with Windows 7 Home Premium and it weighs just six pounds. Both multi-touch screens have 1280 x 800 resolution, and the device is capable of 720p HD playback support. It is not all good news for the Iconia however, with a small battery life and a heavy build at 2 pounds.According to the manufacturer, Acer Iconia features two 14-inch touchscreen panels that can be used in book mode or in the notebook mode in which secondary screen is used as keyboard that has dynamic keys depending on the application that is currently used.
